Overview

This print design project was part of a stationery collection, featuring illustrations inspired by The Dream of Akinosuke. Combining analogue and digital techniques, the design created a distinctive visual experience. Targeted at individuals aged 18 to 30 with an interest in Japanese folklore and ghost stories, it captured the essence of traditional storytelling with a modern aesthetic.

Process

Through extensive story research, sketching, and a blend of analogue and digital techniques, a series of six images was created. Analogue methods such as illustration, scannography, and lino cutting were employed, while digital manipulation added depth and texture. A key challenge was achieving visual cohesion, particularly in illustrating the transition from sunrise to sunset to symbolize the story's conclusion.

Results

The result was a visually impactful series that seamlessly blended traditional and modern design elements. Through thoughtful use of angles, size, image placement, and typography, the project offered a contemporary interpretation of a Japanese cultural story. The transition from sunrise to sunset created a cohesive visual narrative, providing a fresh and engaging perspective on folklore.
